School Counselor

Ms. Bullock's  Beliefs

All students can achieve and meet high standards that will result in college and job ready skills.

Student developmental needs are best met by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that is planned, managed, delivered and evaluated by licensed professional school counselors.

School counselors are leaders, advocates and collaborators who support equitable access to a rigorous curriculum and opportunities for self-directed personal growth for every student.

Data must be analyzed and developed into goals that guide the comprehensive school counseling program which promotes student achievement.

Licensed Professional School Counselors adhere to ASCA Ethical Standards to promote the maximum development of every student.

Vision: Motivate, Educate and Advocate for student success!

Mission: The mission of the Silverdale Elementary School Counseling Program is to guide students in achieving academic, personal/social and career success. We will support students in acquiring the attitude, knowledge and interpersonal skills to help them understand and respect self and others. School Counselors will provide students with opportunities to investigate the world of work and make informed career decisions.

Counselor's Corner

Hello Silverdale Families,

My name is Yolanda Bullock and I am the school counselor here at Silverdale Elementary School.  I look forward to working with your child this school year.  I have worked in public education for sixteen years and have experience working with students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth.  Please contact me if you feel your child has some social or emotional needs which may need to be addressed.

School Counselors support teachers and parents to increase students's academic, personal / social and career awareness.  Through classroom teaching, group work, individual counseling and character education programs we strive to reach every student.

My classroom guidance program focuses on eight major character traits (Respect, Self - Discipline, Caring, Responsibility, Integrity, Cooperation, Citizenship and Trustworthiness).  I will also spend time on career development and helping students understand how school skills relate to future aspirations and goals.

Unfortunately, school counselors don't have the resources to do long term counseling.  I will be happy to work with families to find outside long term support.  I can meet with students who are experiencing extreme distress over various issues who need support in the learning environment.

In small group counseling  I focus on specific needs of students.  Grief and loss, getting along with others, anger management, bullying and the importance of attendance.  I will work with children on dealing with divorce only with the parents request.  Groups help students in realizing that other students share some of their same issues and concerns.

Thank you,

Yolanda A. Bullock
